There used to be a man, he was frustrated with life despite his hard work all that he learned was a failure. Feeling defeated in life in went into the woods and exiled himself.
In the woods he met a hermit, the disappointed man shared his failures with the hermit and said give me one reason not to quit. To this, the hermit replied, “look at those two plants, bamboo
, and a fern, do you see them?”.”Yes”, the man nodded.
“When I planted the fern and bamboo, I took great care of them, gave them water, fertilizers, proper sunlight, and within the short period of time the fern grew out of the earth, but despite the bamboo tree being watered and fertilized for years, not even an inch grew out of it, nothing happened to bamboo in the first year, no sign of growth was visible.
But I did not give up on the bamboo tree and continued watering it, and nurturing it. After the fifth year, a
tiny sprout emerged from the Earth and within the six months the tree grew 100 feet tall, it exploded out of the ground”, hermit further continued.
Did the bamboo tree lie dormant for years, only to grow exponentially in the fifth year?”.
Baffled by the question the man remained quiet. The hermit replied,” well let me tell you, the little tree was growing underground developing a root system strong enough to support its own potential, for outward growth in the fifth year and beyond, had the tree not developed a strong foundation, it would not have sustained his life as it grew, so all this time you are struggling, you were growing strong roots”
The man learned a lesson that day, he learned the value of persistence and hard work. The fern and bamboo stand towards him as he walked towards his life, to continue to work on his dreams.
